Documents & Workspaces

Documents

MECC Central provides a secure documents and wiki facility that allows for collaboration and planning for preparation, response and recovery.

Planning documents can include Municipal Emergency Management Plans (MEMP), policy and risk management guides, roles and responsibility definitions, protocols, action plans, incident management plans, operating procedures and recovery plans.  During response documents can be used to record and share lists such as situation reports, missing persons or reference maps.

Workspaces

In MECC Central document repositories are stored in Workspaces

These are not specific to an incident and may be accessed while working with any incident.

There are two main document workspaces.

  • Documents - a shared workspace accessible to the entire team via the Documents tab.
  • Agency Workspace - workspace that is private to agencies.  It is only accessible to an affiliated Agency User (or coordinator), is accessed via the Agency Workspace tab
and contains additional collaboration and management tools

An overview of the Documents workspaces is shown below.

Wikis

All documents, including files, are stored in "wikis" or "wiki pages".

These are web pages that are quick and easy to add and edit.

Wikis are "living documents" in that multiple people can contribute to them with their change history tracked and logged.

They can:

  • have formatted rich text including tables and embedded content such as images
  • contain one or more attachments (or documents)
  • be saved in a heirarchy
  • be featured
  • be keyword "tagged" - this allow users to clicking on a keyword tag and bring up a list of all documents related to the tag
  • allow users to comment and have threaded discussions on them
